Milbrooks Villa and Retreat

The place was unclean, with a toilet that didn’t work properly, a broken bathroom sink handle, and a broken bedroom doorknob. For three days I had no hot water or face towels. When I asked for help, the host got irritated and had a nasty attitude. This was the worst lodging experience I’ve ever had, and I wouldn’t recommend Millbrook Resort to anyone. Richard Wright and I had a verbal agreement for lodging, but he broke it and refused to return my $500.00 refund. His behavior made it seem like money mattered more to him than integrity.

Our first year at Richard’s Milbrooks villa, it was fully booked and every room was occupied. This time we rented it for a seven night event with 21 people, and we won’t be returning after so many problems. There were only 16 chairs at the large dining table, despite the claim that there was enough seating. He advertised multiple kitchens, but the entire villa had just one tiny working oven, making it difficult for the chef to cook for everyone. Water pressure couldn’t meet the needs of all the rooms, so most people had no water from their showers or faucets. Toilets kept breaking, and the shared dining room bathroom was always without water when guests needed it. The villa was in serious disrepair: shower doors were missing, locks and safes didn’t work, and people got stuck on balconies because the outside knobs were broken. The power went out several times, with no backup generators. We also had items go missing, apparently when staff thought we’d all left. When I asked him to check whether the staff had seen them, he accused my guests of stealing. He showed no concern about these problems or any of our other issues. The maids’ quarters were another issue: he sold them to us as part of the villa, but they were completely separate from the house, down a very long driveway, with their own private entrance. Guests there had to walk around the whole property to join us.

The workers were great and the place itself is very nice, but the owner was horrible. We were there for days and the pool never got cleaned, and the outside walls were neglected. The owner was so cheap with the food and drinks the cook had to work with that she walked off the job. The owner slept outside in his car. The rooms felt old fashioned, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Patrick the chef tried his best to make things more tolerable, but the management took responsibility for nothing. Be sure to read the cancellation policy, since there are no refunds, apologies, or service. Our rooms were dirty, with roaches, bugs in the sugar, limited wash rags, and a broken iron shared among guests. The pool and hot tub were dirty, with the hot tub full of disgusting standing water. There was no Wi-Fi, which staff said had been unavailable for months, no gym, and no kitchenette in the room. Water pressure was low, and hot water for showers only came occasionally. Meals were a joke, they even forgot to make us breakfast. The electricity went out for eight hours and nobody communicated with us. At night there was a random screeching sound that kept us from sleeping, again with no explanation. Staff were rude.
