Washi no Tomarigi

The washroom is shared, and there’s only a shower, no bath. The place was very clean. There was no TV in the room, which made it quiet and comfortable for me since I don't watch much television. The location may suit people planning to take photos at Lake Tofutsu or Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden. Dinner isn't provided, so I recommend buying food at the nearby Seico Mart.

Kitahama Station is hard to get off at because there are so few trains on the Senmo Main Line, but staying here made it easy to enjoy the area. From the inn, it's only a few minutes on foot to the station, and the Ramsar Convention lake is close enough to reach in about the time it takes to get to a train. It’s great for a morning walk. I loved the sunset at Kitahama Station, with Abashiri's night view in the background. The inn was beautiful, and the staff were very kind. Thanks for looking after me on my trip around the eastern part of the railway route. The bath was just a shower, so I took a soak at Shari Green Hot Springs, a short walk from Shiretoko-Shari Station, before heading to the inn. Keep that in mind for your trip.

It's a simple place to stay, and with a Seicomart convenience store nearby, I didn't find it inconvenient. The inn has just two rooms, but it's well placed as a base for birdwatching from Lake Mokoto and Lake Tofutsu towards Koshimizu and Shari. There are nature books to look through, and the owner can offer advice about birdwatching. A good option for an easy, affordable stay.

The inn is only about a two-minute walk from Kitahama Station, and the sea is very close. It's also a lovely place to watch the sunrise. Since it's called "Eagle's Perch," I'd recommend booking a tour. You can really see how much they love eagles.
