The communal dining room is a real highlight, and Miwa's meals are top notch, with a nice mix of Japanese and Western food. Hopi Hills is rustic and personal, and Liam (owner) and his team are exceptionally hospitable. We stayed in one of the few rooms in the barn. It was perfect for a ski trip, with a big warming closet that can hold gear and boots for 20+ people overnight. Kiroro Ski Resort is super convenient to reach, but this place has a much more quaint feel. Kiroro for the snow, Hopi Hills for the hospitality.

The barn was comfortable and warm, and still close to the very cute animals. My kids keep talking about the snow horse rides, and we’ll definitely be back. It was our best family holiday yet. Liam and Miwa couldn’t do enough for us, from delicious homemade breakfast and hearty Japanese and Western dinners to rides to the local Kiroro ski resort just down the road, or to the local authentic onsen. 🙏❤️🏔️

The food was the real treat. The local chef combines regional dishes with food from near and far, making for a one of a kind meal at a fair price. The staff were friendly and helpful from the start, answered all our questions, and went above and beyond to make sure things went well. My two friends and I stayed four nights at Hopi Hills, in rooms above the barn. They were comfortable and worked well for a ski trip. The drying room made a big difference. Kiroro is so close that we could tell what fresh snow we’d get each morning just by looking outside, without checking reports. I’d absolutely book again.

The staff at Hopi Hills Farm were kind, friendly, and knowledgeable, and they clearly wanted the children to learn about farm life. Our school's Early Years and Lower Elementary-aged children had a great time on the learning trip. They rode horses, petted baby bunny rabbits, milked a goat, made a homemade snack from goat milk, and had a hearty lunch. We also hiked to the top of a large hill for an incredible view of Hokkaido. It was time very well spent, and Hopi Hills Farm is a perfect choice for a school trip or family outing. PERFECT!

The communal meals in the big timber lodge were fantastic. The cooking is mostly Japanese home style, with a few Western inspired dishes, and honestly, it’s the kind of food I’d want most nights while traveling. The international staff are helpful, social, and a lot of fun. There are unusual places to stay, including a barn and a yurt. It feels more like a homestay, farmstay, or hostel than a hotel. Getting to Kiroro is an easy drive or shuttle, and a car is useful but not essential. If a bit of rustic suits you, this is a really unique lodge stay.
