The host was super friendly, and the place worked okay as a base for skiing, with ski options about an hour away. The full kitchen could be tricky to use for proper meals, though: a couple who volunteer there, rather than stay as guests, were in it for one to two hours at breakfast and dinner, so some coordination may be needed. The Japanese-style room was okay for a few nights, but it may be uncomfortable if you prefer a full mattress. There was only one outlet, no bedside table, and nowhere to hang wet ski gear or clothes. It’s an okay stay if you want plenty of ski options and don’t mind driving.

Nice, homey place for the price, with a lovely host. It’s close to public transport and Biei, and a great place to meet people. I’ll definitely come back if I’m in the region. Thanks for a great stay!

I could do my own thing from the first day, just as I’d hoped, and felt comfortable staying with Ryu and Chi. The hosts are a lovely couple, and you can tell they’ve put a lot of thought into the dormitory and shared spaces. Bicycles are available to rent at a reasonable price, which helps since many places are hard to reach on foot. It’s a great place for the price. Thanks so much, I’d happily return.

The outdoor bar was a lovely way to bring the guests together, and I met a lot of nice travelers at the guest house. I spent a week at Totonou and loved it. The owners were very kind and helpful, and the property was well maintained. You can rent bikes and hiking gear there too, which makes getting around and enjoying the beautiful surrounding nature easier. Thanks for an amazing stay :)

The cheapest beds are basic, but comfortable and a good choice for budget travel. It’s a nice place to stay, with a really friendly and helpful atmosphere from the owners. You can reach nice places nearby by train, or rent a car next door for 5k¥ a day.
