Atami Onsen Sakuraya Ryokan

Atami was calm, clean, cozy, and relaxing, and only a five minute walk from Atami Station. There's plenty to do around town, including Kinomiya Shrine, and after checkout they drove us to the station. The stay was good for families, couples, or friends. I went with my brother for four nights, Sunday to Wednesday at the beginning of September. It was our first traditional Ryokan, so we weren't sure what to expect. The room was big and beautiful, with a sea view, comfortable tatami, cozy futons, and a bathtub supplied with hot spring water. The staff were polite, generous, friendly, and professional, and paid attention to details. They didn't know much English, but we had no problems communicating. We got to try both of the two onsens, which rotate access between men and women. One had a sauna, indoor and outdoor baths, and cold water. That one was perfect, relaxing, and purifying. The other had indoor and outdoor baths with hot water only. It was good, though not as good. We had dinner and breakfast included, and both were delicious with nice presentation. We also got a local dessert and tea on arrival, then tea and a small local treat each afternoon. My brother has digestion problems, but we ate really well and had no problems on the WC. The price is on the high side, but we got more than we paid for. The food alone, in its quality and amount, was worth it, and the baths felt purifying too. It was an experience we won't forget. Better than any souvenir, and good for your body and mental state.

I haven't been to many onsens, but the service at Atami Onsen Sakura Ryokan was the best I've had at any hotel. The room felt authentic, was very comfortable, and had lots of amenities. Dinner was amazing too. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

The private onsen room worked well for our family because our young daughter couldn't use the general bath, and it let her try an onsen for the first time. We stayed one night, and having meals served in the room made things easier. Dinner and breakfast were both phenomenal. The staff were very friendly, and drove us to the station the next day since we had a stroller and luggage.

We loved the food, and after check-in there was afternoon tea and a welcome snack, then dinner and breakfast the following morning. The staff's hospitality exceeded my expectations. Even when the language barrier came up, they did their best to look after everyone. The Ryokan is close to Atami station, though there's a series of steps to reach it, so keep that in mind if you're traveling with elderly people. There are two public onsen rooms with some differences, and access alternates by gender on a schedule. I really enjoyed the baths and think everyone should give them a try. My family had a fantastic stay, and I'd happily return to Atami and stay here again.
