Six of us stayed at The Retreat Place for three nights at the end of December and had a great time. The hosts were warm and eager to help. They shared good ideas for things to do, and even drove us to the ski slopes so we wouldn't need a taxi. The place has a welcoming, cosy feel. We had nabe for dinner and continental breakfasts, all nourishing and made with care. I'd recommend The Retreat Place if you're exploring the Bandai/Lake Inawashiro area. Their Instagram is worth a look if you want more information.

The host was so lovely and accommodating, and we really enjoyed our three nights. There were 13 of us, so we had the whole place to ourselves. It's close to inawashiro snow paradise.

The staff were very polite and made our Golden Week stay pleasant. A friend and I also booked a SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboarding) session at Lake Akimoto, about 30-40 minutes away by car. The instructor explained things well and supported us throughout, so we had a great time. Paddling on that calm lake with the snow, mountain cherry blossoms, and fresh greenery around was lovely. It'd be fun to come back in another season. Just be warned, falling in is incredibly cold! We warmed up at a nearby hot spring on the way back.

My first SUP outing made me a little nervous, but it was really fun. We went in July, so sun protection is a must. I still got sunburned despite using sunscreen lol. A rash guard or something quick-drying like Under Armour would be a good idea. It was hot before we started, then once we were underway the breeze felt nice. We somehow ended up soaked, which kept us cool. If you fall in, or someone accidentally drops you, the staff will help. I think families and couples would both enjoy it!
