Beppu Hostel & Cafe Ourschestra - Hostel

It's very cheap and well placed, about a 5 or 10 minute walk from Beppu station. A few cute places to eat are nearby, and the owner suggested a couple when I checked in. The hostel is simple, with curtained bunks, a shared kitchen and a small common area. My room was dim and the toilet felt old, but for the price I can't complain. :) As of November 2024, despite what Google and booking sites say, there was no attached cafe, bar or izakaya. After checkout I wanted to ask about leaving my luggage for the day, but nobody was around because the cafe and bar were closed. I left it in the common area and it was fine.

Our economy twin room was tiny. There wasn't much space between the bunk and wall for luggage, so sharing the room was a squeeze, though it was good value. The hostel is small, modern and simple, right in central beppu and within walking distance of lots of places. Staff were friendly and explained how everything worked when we arrived. There's a little lounge and kitchen on the 2F.

I loved the easygoing, youthful crowd here and had a blast hanging out in the cafe and meeting people. The hostel is close enough to the train station to make exploring Beppu, the "Hot Springs Mecca" of Japan, easy. The place looked like a design magazine, with modern cement and warm wood giving it a stylish but welcoming feel. The Japanese design was really cool. Even with that polished look, it was very affordable. The kitchen and showers were sparkling clean and had everything I needed. Downstairs, the cafe served great meals and hot drinks, then became a bar at night where travelers could hang out. I'd happily return on another Beppu trip.
