Hoshino Resorts KAI Beppu

The room and its view were lovely, but the stay felt disappointing for the price. We had to book at least two nights, there weren't many facilities, and the meals felt too small for an average-sized man and not very Japanese in style. On the second day, the check-in staff asked us to move the car to another lot. In winter, that meant about a five-minute walk. If I return to Beppu, I'll consider a different onsen resort.

The ocean view is so wide open, it really makes you breathe easier. A fun, relaxing resort with lots of thoughtful little details. It's a nice Kai-branded place, with a small hot spring bath.

I'd never stayed at an onsen resort before, and it turned out to be such a relaxing, enjoyable experience. It feels worth the cost, and I'd stay for at least a couple of days next time. I'd like to try the other locations around Japan too.

The view was the one exciting part for me. The room felt old and poorly maintained, and the food didn't taste traditionally Japanese. With each bite, I couldn't tell whether it would be sweet or salty.
