Phottage inn Biei

A very clean, quiet place in a convenient spot right next to Lawson. The staff, or perhaps the owner, were super friendly. Their English may be limited, but we could still communicate. Tea and coffee are free.

A staff member welcomed us at 8 am and went out of her way to help with bicycle rental, local suggestions, our luggage, and sightseeing. Her kindness and support really made a difference. The hostel itself feels thoughtfully put together, with wood furnishings throughout, everything very clean, good-quality shampoo and conditioner, and disposable cups by the shared sinks. I'd recommend it to solo travelers or anyone wanting a warm, helpful place to stay.

The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the staff spoke English. It also had the appliances we needed: a heater, fan, air purifier, fridge, and even a monitor. I liked all the wood furnishings, and everything was clean. They provide nice shampoo and conditioner and disposable cups at the shared sinks, with lots of little details that feel well considered. I rarely review hotels unless something is bad, but this place impressed me.

It looks like a container from the outside, but inside it's finished in wood. They left mineral water, coffee, tea, and cookies for us, and I felt comfortable during my two-night stay. The laundry machine is free to use. Detergent was available at the front desk for JPY 100/pond.
