The views are lovely, with mountains all around and the famous Chikuma river right beside the property. There are several ski resorts within 35-60 km, including Happo-one and Myoko, and it’s a great place to spend time with friends or family. The ryokan is well kept, the onsen is lovely, and the food is yummy. Some of the staff are Indian, so you can also get delicious Indian food. The staff were helpful and shared useful information.

The hired front desk clerk had only been in Japan for a month, but he was friendly. I was surprised when he even plated the yakitori I’d bought at Seiyu after I microwaved it for him. Still, there were a lot of problems: no hot springs, no hot water in the room bath, a broken room key, cash only, and no toothbrush. It was English only, smelled like India, and 8500 yen per person felt way too expensive 😅. I’d recommend Zuisho for a day trip instead. It has a parking lot and costs 800 yen 😁😁👍👍.

The ukiyo-e prints were a nice touch. I heard the owner changed to an Indian person a year ago, which even surprised the Japanese! (lol) Breakfast paired spicy chicken curry with Japanese food. Hope they spread Japanese hot spring culture to India!
