For 3,000-4,000 yen a night, it’s a good-value place to stay while hiking around northern Ibaraki. Hitachi-Daigo Station is about a 20-minute walk away. There are laundry facilities and private shower rooms, though you’ll need to bring your own towel. It’s basic, but the price makes it worthwhile, and there are great hikes nearby.

It has the friendly, natural feel I’d expect from a Japanese guesthouse. The floors and walls are a bit thin, but that’s pretty typical of a traditional Japanese house.

The hilly surroundings are breathtaking, and it’s a nice place.

A nice, cozy place to get away.

We were a little unsure about staying in a guesthouse since we aren’t used to them, but ended up having a really comfortable visit. It was quiet at night, and we slept well. The next morning, we used one of the clean shower stalls, which had shampoo and conditioner and was free to use. There were three stalls and another shower with a bathtub, though we didn’t try that one. The 24-hour café space was handy for breakfast with food we’d picked up at 7-Eleven. We came as a family of four during Golden Week in 2026, staying from May 2 to 3 between a visit to Spa Resort Hawaiians in Iwaki and a camping trip in Oarai. The room-only rate was around 16,000 yen, which felt incredibly cheap these days. The bunk beds and two futons were a hit with the kids. We also made good use of the washing machines and dryers, just 100 yen each, to wash our family’s clothes during the trip. Finding dinner took some planning. We asked the owner, or someone who seemed to be, and followed their suggestion to a restaurant near Hitachi-Daigo Station. It was about a 20-minute walk. I liked crossing the river bridges and taking in the peaceful scenery, though the children were tired by then. We thought about getting a taxi back, but there weren’t any at the station. The recommended yakitori place was full, so we went to another izakaya nearby instead. We picked up breakfast for the next day at 7-Eleven on the way back. We didn’t get to see the famous waterfall, which was a shame. Next time, we’d like to come specifically for that.
