I almost didn’t book because I found the place on maps but could barely find reviews online. Glad I trusted my instincts. I filled out a form on the website and got a confirmation email, with no card or deposit needed and no reminder before arrival. I was a little worried, so I called to check, but the person spoke only a little English and I wasn’t sure things were set until we arrived. The town itself felt ordinary, maybe even shabby, and we didn’t see many international tourists. We walked from the train station, though you can ask them to drive you, and the change when we arrived was striking. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and comfortable, with everything feeling high quality. They even had such cute kid-sized versions of things. The staff weren’t fluent in English, and that’s on us for not learning Japanese faster, but their care and hospitality came through. A group of them came out to greet us whenever we returned. Everyone was professional and friendly, with a family feel. The young woman who served our meals was especially cheerful and delightful. My kid was sad we didn’t see her on our last day. We loved the private open-air onsen, the exquisite meals, and the view from the window. They’re really creating art in their work in this unexpected suburban setting. I rarely sleep this well. It was so relaxing and satisfying. This may be the longest review I’ve written, but I really wanted to say thank you. It isn’t cheap, as Japanese onsen ryokans tend to be expensive, but compared with a popular destination like Hakone, it’s pretty good. The whole experience was worthwhile, and I hope to visit again.
