The Hinoko private onsen room was 100% worth it for the extra space. It was snug for two, and there are plenty of other bathing choices too: onsen on the basement and top floors, plus a private one you can rent for a fee. We loved spending our evenings lounging and soaking after chasing Fuji for a few days and having Kaiseki dinner. The onsen on the 7th floor has a semi-private bath that can be all yours if you go early or late. The futon on tatami mats was so comfortable, and there are lots of amenities. Meals were authentic, and you can choose from several breakfast and dinner times. Just tell the staff if you’re skipping a meal so they don’t prepare it in advance, they’re very punctual. The staff were attentive and polite. Location is #1, just a five-minute walk from the ropeway. We were first up after it opened and did the famous swing. If you have a rental car, parking is across the street by Kawaguchiko lake, with plenty of spaces. Make time to enjoy the ryokan itself when you’re paying a premium to stay there.

The location is perfect, with Lawson just a one-minute walk away if you need anything. Staff were accommodating and spoke English very well. We had a room with a private bath and a great view of Lake Kawaguchiko. Dinner was brought to the room, while breakfast was served in the banquet hall. Both meals were delicious and filling. There was even an amazing fireworks show that night. Definitely recommend!

Kasuitei Ooya sits right beside Lake Kawaguchiko on its south shore. The outside isn’t much to look at, but the service was top notch. Our room had a traditional seating area with tatami flooring, and staff laid out the surprisingly comfortable futons while we were at dinner. Rooms are spacious, with either a lake or Mt Fuji view. The kaiseki meals were a highlight, beautifully served in Japanese ware, with a different menu each day. Staff brought out each course attentively, and we enjoyed every meal. There’s free parking in a large lot outside by the lake. For public transport, sightseeing buses stop right outside. The Mt Fuji Ropeway is a five-minute walk away, though it’s best to go when clouds aren’t covering Mt Fuji. We loved the ryokan stay and its wonderful kaiseki meals.

The private onsen on the seventh floor had a gorgeous view of the lake and mountains, and the lake view elsewhere was stunning too. The meals have been our best so far, with what felt like endless courses at breakfast and dinner 🤭. The hotel is quite old and the decor a little dated, but it suits the Japanese style and culture. We’ll definitely come back 🫶🇯🇵🗻❤️

Kasuitei Ooya made a real effort to accommodate my partner’s celiac needs. Although many ryokans won’t cater to allergies, they prepared separate dishes for him and even had gluten-free soy sauce for sashimi. It was the best gluten-free food we had in Tokyo. Our room also had lovely views. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm and welcoming, and the kaiseki meal was the highlight.
