The beds were comfortable, and the location was ideal, but we found it hard to rest on the first floor. People gather near the showers, sinks, water fountain, fridge, microwave, and bench there, and sound carries right through the thin walls and doors. We were woken by loud conversations at 6 a.m., then by breakfast being set up around 7:30 a.m. That’s not Hostel 1889’s fault, but it may not suit you if you need quiet. If you don’t mind early mornings or late nights, it could be fine. Otherwise, you can ask for a room on the second floor. The room also felt damp and smelled of mould. We opened the window, but it was right beside the street and didn’t feel very safe.

The view of Mount Fuji is very good, and the location is great. Everything is handled by email, and check-in is at 4:00 PM.

We had a great stay at 1889 Hostel, especially because of its fantastic spot for seeing Mt. Fuji. The views from the hostel were one of the best parts of our trip, and the atmosphere was friendly. The Comfort Room and Bathroom are shared by all guests, so we would have liked a bit more privacy. Even so, we’d still recommend the place for the location and welcoming feel.

The lounge was a nice place to relax, and the hostel itself was quiet, clean, and decent. Self check-in and check-out were efficient. I also liked finding skincare products in the restroom. There’s a roof deck too, though I think it would be better with more comfortable chairs. We stayed here on our Fuji trip.

The hostel looks even nicer in person than it does in the photos. You can see Fuji from the street outside. There are hot and cold water machines, and the bathrooms have shampoo, soap, and other basics.
