Such a fabulous place, and the views of Mt Fuji made our stay feel really authentic. 10/10.
The central Fujiyoshida location was good, but the house is very large and outdated, and it wasn’t cleaned well. There were cobwebs everywhere, and there was paper in the level 2 toilet when we checked in. The hot water kettle didn’t work during our stay. We visited when it was around 6-15 degres celcius, and the heating wasn’t enough. It got really cold at night, especially on the unheated path to the bathroom. They provided some kerosene heaters, but they can’t be used for long periods, especially overnight. There was no wardrobe space, so we couldn’t find a proper place to hang our towels. Using the washing machine powder required 100 yen.
We booked the whole house for our family of five and it was spacious, comfortable, and really felt like home. There’s enough room in the front yard to park three cars, and it would work just as well for a get-together with friends. We could buy our own groceries and cook. They provided tableware and dishes, though it would’ve been even better to have some basic seasonings in the kitchen. The washing machine and dryer were handy and made a longer stay convenient.
The garden has a beautiful cherry blossom tree, and the location is nice. The exterior looks fantastic, but staying inside was very uncomfortable. The house is large, but it didn’t have the cleanliness and tidiness I’d expect from a Japanese house. Dust and cobwebs were everywhere, and the corners smelled musty. My family and I all had skin and nasal allergies, with unbearable itching and swollen eyes in the morning. At night, cold air came through the doors and windows. The blankets felt damp and chilly, so we woke up cold and couldn’t sleep. The gas heating only helped a little, and the electrical system kept tripping from time to time, which was inconvenient.
Lovely furnishings and tatami mats give the house a distinctly Japanese feel. It’s a beautiful place. 7-Eleven is a little farther away, but it makes for a good walk.
