It’s a really nice culturally Japanese house, with a good kitchen and amenities. The beds are thin roll-out mattresses, about as comfortable as I expected. Check-in was completely inflexible for no real reason: we arrived at 2:15pm, the place was already cleaned, but they made us sit outside until exactly 3pm. There’s also a motion-detecting security camera in the foyer that records people coming in and out.

This house was so musty that every breath felt like taking in a century of history. The living room was smoky and stuffy, so I didn’t even use it. There’s barely any insulation, and the house got really cold after dark. At night I could hear everything from the parking lot, cat fights, vans and taxis arriving with squeaky wheels. I got maybe three hours of sleep total. Then I saw the biggest spider I’ve ever seen, about 10cm across, in the toilet. I quickly packed up and left, even though I’d booked a longer stay. I’d rather sleep on the street than spend another minute in this moldy house. Also, I don’t think Fujiyoshida is worth staying in for multiple nights. If you want to see Mount Fuji, basing yourself in Yokohama or Tokyo would save you a lot of money and hassle. The housing quality in Fujiyoshida seems really poor overall.

The apartment is roomy enough, but it’s missing a rice cooker, hot pot and iron, and there weren’t enough spoons for cooking. Turning on two AC units at once also cuts the power.

The kitchen had a strong, awful smell of old cooking oil, and the rooms were dark, which my family didn’t like. The shower area was so small you could only stand to wash, making it really hard with our child. The whole building seems to be an old house with a facelift. Some parts still feel worn, especially the dirty sofa hidden under a cover. The parking directions were unclear. The sign had been changed to blue, but the check-in instructions still showed the old yellow one, and the parking sign had been blown crooked, so at first we couldn’t find it. I messaged the host through Airbnb after 7pm to ask about parking and got no reply at all. I completely don’t recommend this place. It was a huge disappointment and made me feel deceived. After booking on Airbnb, the deposit became nonrefundable just three days later.

The house felt eerie. It’s spacious but dark, with a strange layout, dim lighting, and a dog food smell throughout. There was even an unidentified hair on my bed, which was disgusting, and the old Daruma doll by the entrance creeped me out. My father can’t sleep well there, and my mother feels like someone else is in the house. My sister leaves the bathroom light off when she goes in at night, but when she gets up, it’s on. The bedroom wardrobe also seems to open by itself, even though nobody has opened it. Should someone come and look into this house?
