Comfort Hotel Hakata

The breakfast was free, and I was surprised by how good it was. Some hotels would charge extra for something this nice. The hotel is right across from Hakata Station, with restaurants and shops all around, though it gets somewhat noisy until 10:30 at night. The rooms are old but still functional. There aren’t any USB ports, and the central heating and air conditioning are controlled by the hotel, which is unfortunate. It’s not as bad as some reviews make it sound.

It’s a standard business hotel room, and breakfast is included. There’s also coffee, tea, and water available from 14:00 to 24:00. The location is the big plus: right across from Hakata station. From Sun plaza, use west exit 8 or 12. Starbucks and 7-11 are next door.

The location is hard to beat, very close to the station and big shopping centers, with Starbucks and 7/11 around the corner. There are free drinks from 2 pm to midnight, umbrella rental, self check-in, a free breakfast buffet, and free combs, toothbrushes, and slippers. Most floors have a vending machine, and there’s laundry too. The rooms were disappointing. They smelled damp and the floor was dirty, with clipped nails left on it. The bathroom is tiny, and you have to pay to use the small TV. I wouldn’t stay here again.

There are plenty of places outside the hotel to get breakfast, like komeda's coffee. I did get a good coffee here, though. When I came down ten minutes before breakfast ended, staff were already clearing the food. The milk had run out, and after one guest asked for more, they brought about 2 dl for three people waiting. One small kid got a little, which was pretty funny. I booked at short notice, and this was the only hotel available in the area. The rooms, bathrooms, and service, especially in the breakfast area, were worse than the photos and reviews suggested. The location is great, and the hotel could probably charge more and do better for the owners if they put a bit more effort into the rooms and service. I guess you get what you pay for.
