Comfort Inn Fukuoka Tenjin

The room was very basic, with two twin beds, and the bathroom smelled like pee. The free breakfast next door was okay. If you like sweets in the morning and staff with an attitude when you order, this might suit you. I had a bean paste sandwich with Greek yogurt, orange, and tea, but we’ll probably eat somewhere else next time. We travel by subway, so getting here from Hakata station took about ten minutes. The closest stop is Tenjin-minami on the Nanakuma line, about a five-minute walk away.

The service was good overall, and the staff did their best given the circumstances. If you can get a room facing away from the main road, it’s quiet. Cleanliness wasn’t up to Japanese standards, though. The bathroom smelled strongly of pee, and the lobby toilet, shared with the komeda coffee next door, was unclean. Amenities were limited, with no face wash or cotton pads, for example.

The location was perfect for exploring Fukuoka, and the staff were friendly. It’s a chain inn, with clean rooms, though you can hear the neighbors a little. They can store your luggage and help with transport options. Our room didn’t have a tub, which is unusual for Japan, but we could manage.

We picked this hotel for the location, about five minutes from the Yatai street by Naka River and a five-to-eight-minute walk from Tenji Underground mall and the department stores. The room was decent, but I’d expected it to be a little bigger since this is an American chain. It wasn’t, though it didn’t matter much since we were only there to sleep.
