Dormy Inn Premium Hakata Canal City Mae Natural Hot Spring

The subway entrance is right outside the lobby, which helps since most of Fukuoka’s main sights require a ride. Canal City is the main thing nearby, so the location may suit some tastes better than others. I’d consider staying here for a work trip, but not so much for sightseeing. The rooms are comfortable, though on the small side, and the furniture looks worn. The spa is the real draw. There aren’t many other amenities, and the free snacks don’t make up for that. I’m not sure what makes this place “premium.”

The location is excellent, and I liked the cold plunge as well as the regular hot springs. Good management and service, plus the free ramen, snacks and yakult make it feel like better value for the price than nearby mitsui gardens. I’d avoid that hotel, though. Its recent 1-3 star reviews keep bringing up poor service, small rooms and a disorganized breakfast.

The onsen on the second floor is roomy and has three pools, which I preferred to the one at the other Dormy Inn here. Rooms are small but practical, and you can open the windows, so there wasn’t a musty smell. Even with the cheaper package that skips room cleaning, staff brought fresh towels each day. There isn’t much shared space, though, so it’s hard for a mixed-gender family to sit together after bathing. This place was much nicer than the reviews made me expect.
