S-PERIA HOTEL Fukuokanakasu

It’s within easy walking distance of the Nakasu eating and entertainment area. The buffet breakfast is basic, but there’s enough variety to manage. A decent business hotel that does what it says: rooms are a reasonable size by Japanese standards and are fitted out okay. The beds are soft, as others have mentioned, and there’s a coffee maker in the room.

Two fresh bottles of mineral water arrived every morning, which I really appreciated. Canal City is also within walking distance, and Shin Shin Ramen is very close by for ramen and gyoza. Just be careful with Google Maps: I mixed up "S-peria Hotel Hakata" and this place in Fukuokanakasu. They aren’t close to each other, and walking to the wrong one is a pain. The mattress divided my family. My parents thought it was far too soft, since it was foam without springs, but I found it okay. If you prefer a firmer bed, you may want to look elsewhere. Room service is pretty consistent about its timing, so it’s easy to plan around. The rooms are small for the price, though that’s what I expected from this type of hotel. Some of the amenities could be awkward if you’re taller or wider than the average Japanese person.

The lobby staff were very kind and hospitable, and getting around was easy even though the main attractions take a bit of walking. The hotel is below Tenjin and Hakata rather than right in the center, about one or two bus stops away. The viral marshmallow dessert is downstairs, so you can try it and tick off that influencer post you saved. The bed was my big problem. It was so soft that it sank when I sat or lay down, with zero spring and no back support. I had a hard time getting up because it sank further. If that’s the kind of bed you like, it may be fine, but it isn’t for me. I wouldn’t stay here again.
