Hotel Grand Sumiyoshi

Really enjoyed our stay!

The room was in good condition. It’s about a kilometer from the station. Outside winter, be sure to bring mosquito repellent.

One thing to watch out for is the name: the English name is GRAND BASE Sumiyoshi, and it’s easy to mix it up with another hotel in the same group, GRAND BASE Hakata Sumiyoshi. Google Maps sent us to the wrong place when we searched the English name. A taxi from the airport is around 2300 yen, and drivers may not know this hotel, so give them the address: 4-23-18 Sumiyoshi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The room was clean, though the interior is small. It’s in a quiet residential area, and you can hear cicadas in the morning. The supermarket is about a kilometer away. Outlets and light switches next to the bed were handy, and the door locks automatically when closed, though it takes a little while to lock. We were four people but got only two sets of toiletries and towels; I’m not sure if that’s hotel policy. There’s no hotel parking, but you can use a nearby lot. Since check-in is self-service, watch for the hotel’s emails or messages with instructions for opening the main door. There’s nobody at the counter, but you can call someone on the front desk tablet if something goes wrong, and they respond and sort it out within a minute, which is pretty quick.

The facilities are clean and the place is good. The location feels a bit awkward, though. The stir-fried curry place up ahead is delicious.
