81's Inn Fukuoka - Hostel

The atmosphere felt odd, and we were uncomfortable the whole time. I was glad we left after just one night. The dorm walls stop short of the ceiling, so light and noise from the entrance and common room carry in. From the top bunks, the common room light is especially bothersome because those beds are open above. The futons were very thin and uncomfortable, and the wooden frame felt wobbly. If you move around in your sleep, the whole bunk shakes. The showers could have been cleaner too.

It felt like someone had put bunk beds on an office floor, and the entire building, hostel included, gets locked at 02:00. If you're in an upper bunk, watch your head on the ceiling. Also, if you're sleeping right under an air-con, keep a mask or wet towel by your head to protect your nose and throat.

It's a tiny hostel made from office space, with rooms divided mostly by standing walls. A loud snorer could keep everyone awake, though it was generally quiet and clean. There are windows, air conditioning, a microwave, fridge, and vending machine. You can't get in from 2am to 5am, even if you know the door code.

I learned the hard way that a very cheap booking can be a mistake. The place was gross and unhygienic. During my stay the toilets weren't cleaned, and hygiene pads were scattered across the floor. When the toilet paper ran out, I had to search the men's washroom for some. There's just one shower for all the guests, no kitchen, and only a tiny fridge and kettle. I stayed here in mid-September 2017.
