First Cabin Hakata

There isn't a locker area, so people are constantly packing and unpacking their suitcases, day and night. The noise carries down the hallway into the booths, and it kept waking me up. I slept badly for all three days. On checkout day I got up a bit late and reached the counter at 10:15am instead of 10:00am. They charged me ¥1000 for being an hour late.

The central location is a plus, and check-in was polite. From the photos, the design looks promising, and the cabins are more spacious than regular capsule hotel cabins. I stayed two nights, though, and kept wondering what the planners were thinking. The mattress is thick but rock hard, like sleeping on the floor, and there's nowhere to put luggage, even though it could fit under the bed with a smarter design. The washroom has very little privacy: just one private shower cabin, while the rest is open, Onsen style. It's manageable if you like that setup. Still, it's disappointing to see places designed with so little common sense and so little thought for guest comfort.

I booked a week and can't get a refund, while the staff aren't willing to help, so I'm stuck enduring the whole stay. I definitely won't return and strongly wouldn't recommend it. The bed feels like concrete, even in the first class room, and I find it impossible and stressful to sleep on. It's also a poor fit if you're carrying any luggage, and the individual rooms don't lock, so leaving anything behind feels risky. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

The place was quiet and I slept really well. Service, cleanliness and the public baths were excellent. I set an alarm for 5:45 am, and the receptionist came by to knock on my curtain :) It was my first capsule hotel, though I guess it's a step up from the test tube style. Great experience.
