The BREAKFAST HOTEL Fukuoka Tenjin

The mattress was so soft that I woke up with back pain every day. April was also uncomfortable because the room had heating but no air conditioning, and it was too hot to sleep even with the windows wide open. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the subway. On the plus side, there’s a washing machine and dryer for 400 JPY, and the room has cooking facilities if you want to prepare your own food.

The room was filthy. I found blood stains on the sheets, along with hair and what looked like human skin left by previous guests. There was hair in the bathtub too. Even the hair dryer was dirty, with its intake clogged by thick white fluff and dust. It didn’t look like it had been cleaned or checked in a long time. At the front desk, Hisaka barely spoke English, which made it hard to communicate basic needs. His attitude was hostile and cold, and he made no effort to help. The breakfast selection was very limited and not worth the price. I’ve traveled extensively in Japan, and this was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had. It was a shocking contrast with the clean, professional impression I usually have of the country. Between the room conditions and the way Hisaka treated us, I won’t return. If cleanliness and basic respect matter to you, stay elsewhere.

The location is fairly good, and breakfast was delicious. The main issue was the heating and cooling system in the room. It often malfunctioned and switched itself off, leaving the room sometimes very hot and sometimes very cold.

It’s a decent three-star place, with a central location, clean rooms, and friendly, helpful staff. There weren’t noise issues. Communication was okay, and Google Translate filled in the gaps well enough. I’m a health inspector and checked our room for pests before we settled in. I didn’t find anything concerning.
