Hostel TOKI

This updated review better reflects how I feel about Toki hostel. I deleted my earlier one because it no longer did. The people and the living spaces shaped my stay most. The staff were beyond kind, every one of them. I’m deeply grateful. I won’t use their first names here to respect their privacy, but they know who they are. On my arrival night, someone invited me to ring the temple bell on New Year’s Eve, outside their shift and with no work obligation. That kindness became my introduction to Fukuoka, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. Four days later, when I was sad and feeling lost, another person stayed and listened while I spoke honestly about how hard the previous days had been. They gave me hope and made things feel brighter. I’m grateful in a way a Google review can’t capture. Others helped me understand how everything worked and did their best to help sort out a problem with the booking website. Thank you all. I’ll stop there, since a review can’t do justice to how grateful I am to the Hostel Toki staff. I enjoyed working remotely in the welcoming common room. It’s bright and comfortable, with free coffee, a couch and a big table, and it’s easy to talk with other guests. At night in winter, it can get cold by the door, so wrap up in a blanket. The dorm beds feel cozy and like your own space, with an individual reading light and a safe for valuables, which was handy for my camera gear. Lights come on and cleaning starts early, so it’s better to get up early than expect to sleep past 9h30AM. The showers and bathroom were clean, warm, comfortable and well maintained. There’s also a smoking area behind the hostel for off-hours, where the washing machine is located. The bike rental was amazing: 800 yen for 24 hours, with bikes in excellent condition, and they had one that fit even someone tall like me. 10/10. Minoshima first seemed like a sleepy residential neighborhood, but that wasn’t the whole picture. You get that quiet residential feel while still being conveniently in central Fukuoka, with everything easy to reach. I have two nights left and would have stayed much longer if I could. I’ll make the most of them, and I’ll miss you all. Thank you for everything. - Paul

The staff at Hostel Toki were kind, and when I accidentally left a piece of clothing there, they mailed it to my next accommodation. The beds were really comfortable and the women’s dorm was nice. It’s in a great area near plenty of bus stops. I’d stay here again if I’m back in Fukuoka.

A really cozy, warm, clean hostel with a relaxing feel and great value for the money. The host was amazing, welcoming, gentle, kind, and super helpful.

In the 8-person dorm, each comfortable bed had a full privacy curtain, an outlet, a light, a small safe, two hooks and two hangers. There was plenty of room under the bed for backpacks and suitcases. The only downside was having nowhere to hang a towel. The staff were very nice and tried hard to answer my questions. The common area was good for meeting other travelers, and there was always instant coffee.
