Hotel Monte Hermana Fukuoka

The location worked well, just a couple of minutes on foot from Watanabe-dori station, which is three stops from Hakata station. There’s coin laundry, though it gets busy and one dryer doesn’t dry very well. Coffee and tea bags are available in the lobby, but at night the tea, especially the honey sweet tea, seemed to get used up fast. Cleanliness seemed fine, but the carpet and furniture looked old, and the bed felt hard enough that after the third night I woke with pain in a shoulder blade. Compared with the Hilton we stayed at before, the rooms were much smaller. We booked two rooms for three adults and three kids, with barely enough room for our luggage, and the bathroom was tiny too. Since this cost about the same as, or possibly more than, the Hilton, it didn’t feel like good value.

Friendly staff and lots of nearby places to eat made the stay enjoyable. There are plenty of small restaurants where you can find something to suit your taste, and the Tenjin underground shopping street is an easy walk away. Watanabe subway is just a stone’s throw from the hotel. I’d recommend staying here if you’re planning to shop at Daimaru, Mitsukoshi, or Parco.

I usually stay here when visiting Fukuoka because it’s not far from my wife’s grand P. It’s neat and clean, reasonably priced, and in a good spot close to Metro Watanabe Dori, though not right in the center. There’s a supermarket and convenience store nearby, plus free coffee at the front. I’d call it a well-balanced hotel for a family.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive. There was a good range of food to choose from, and I really enjoyed the stay.
