Hotel Salifort Hakata

Our room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke when we arrived, despite booking because the hotel was advertised as non-smoking. We later found out that Booking.com lists the property as smoke-free, but that only applies to units managed by the hotel. Long-term residents whose units are managed by a separate company can smoke inside, and the smell can drift into guest rooms. The odor was overwhelming. We tried airing the room out but couldn't stay, so we booked somewhere else that same day. The hotel acknowledged the issue when we raised it, but initially refused any refund, saying residents smoking in the building was an external factor beyond their control. After several emails, they offered only a partial refund for one of our four nights, although we never stayed there at all. It felt like the smoking situation in the building hadn't been disclosed upfront. If smoke is a concern for you or you expect a fully non-smoking environment, keep this in mind before booking.
