Plaza Hotel Premier

It's one of the more affordable places in Tenjin and felt worth what I paid. I was nervous after reading some reviews, but I was fine staying for a week. The alley location still allows taxis, though there's no waiting zone. You won't find a free luggage room, but there are coin lockers. They don't have a water dispenser either; there is a vending machine and an ice maker, which is great in summer. Amenities are well stocked, so you don't need to bring much. It's near fashion outlets for easy shopping, but bars surround the area and the alley can still be crowded with tourists at night. The bedsheets were fine, and they can clean the room daily. The train station is 700m away and the bus stop is just 300m.

Tenjin's central location is the main thing this hotel has going for it, with Tenjin station a five-minute walk away. The place looks shabby and worn, the carpet is old and peeling, and the room was smaller than a jail cell, really only usable for one person. The AC made noise as though it was running but barely moved any air, and the WiFi was so unreliable that a hotspot or nearby cafe might be better. It's also in a party area, so expect drunk people shouting in the street until 5am. A mixed bag: for more than two days, I wouldn't recommend it. If you want somewhere cheap and decent while partying in Tenjin, it could work. Without the location, I'd probably rate it two stars.

The location is fantastic for shopping and just wandering around. Inside, though, the bed was really hard and uncomfortable, and the WiFi kept dropping out so often you may as well assume there isn't any. The room also smelled like an old building, kind of like grandma's place. Opening the window helped.

For the price and location, it was tolerable, though not the best. I had a non-smoking room and it was fine. I just didn't like being charged ¥2,500 for parking.
