Matsushimaya Ryokan

The staff were so welcoming and warm that I enjoyed the whole stay and honestly wanted to come back. It would be a great place for anyone wanting a hot spring trip with a pet. We stayed over New Year's with our dog and cat, which was a big reason we chose the inn. We felt relaxed and safe. The hot springs were beautiful, soothing and just the right temperature, warming us through. Every dish was carefully made and delicious, which made the holiday feel special. There were free drinks in the lobby lounge, including alcohol, and we could take them to our room. Free popsicles and other thoughtful touches were appreciated too.

It's a rare inn where you can bring a budgie. The parakeets flew around freely, and we had such a good time watching them that we lost track of time. We also booked the private baths and came out feeling refreshed, warm all the way through. The food was delicious, with plenty of Japanese dishes, including kamameshi and dobinmushi.

The room was spacious and clean, and the staff were really friendly. We were allowed to bring our pets into the private bath changing rooms, so they didn't have to wait alone. The all-you-can-drink option was fun, and the service was even better than we'd hoped. We stayed for our wedding anniversary and were very happy with the experience. We accidentally damaged some pet supplies, but they didn't charge us extra, which we really appreciated. I'd love to come back every year 😆. One thing that would help is a little staircase to get up to and down from the bed. I ended up making one out of my futon. See you again next year! 😊

We traveled with our dog and child and were happy with everything, from the location to the clean, pleasant atmosphere. The staff were kind and welcoming, and we enjoyed the free drinks. Some room types are barrier-free and wheelchair accessible. I only wish we'd stayed two nights instead of one. We booked a room-only plan, but couldn't find good places to eat nearby. The view and atmosphere from the room were so lovely that we should have picked a plan with meals. I'd like to go back!
