Sumire Inn

I stayed from October 20-22, 2025. I had work in Minami-Furano but lost the accommodation battle there, so I ended up staying here. I'd known about the place from Instagram for a while, but since I live in Asahikawa, I'd given up on staying in Furano. In the end, losing that booking battle gave me the chance to stay here! There was Wi-Fi, and bath towels and face towels were provided in the room. Heating was by fan heater, with a portable one used during the coldest part of winter. The facilities included a refrigerator, washer and dryer, a shower toilet, and a bath in the shared area. Ogin-senpai, the resident cat, came to my room every night and put me at ease by playing with me ♪ Mike-san, the other resident cat, avoided me though (sob). My plan included both dinner and breakfast, and I was happy with how delicious they were. I hope I can stay here again ♪

The inn has a lovely, distinctive atmosphere. I was here for business, and I believe it's been operating for 102 or 103 years. A mother and her son run it. The signboard cats, Ogin and Mike, are so cute ❤😸 But best of all, the son's dinners and breakfasts are delicious. I hope this inn keeps going for a long time!

We booked breakfast, and the grilled fish each morning was delicious and seasoned just right. For dinner, JR Furano Station is nearby, with yakiniku, conveyor belt sushi, izakaya, and other choices in walking distance. During this season, all the restaurants were full of foreign visitors, so I'd book ahead. We spent four nights and five days here as a group of six on a Furano ski trip. The ski resort is a 15-minute drive away, and Sahoro Resort Ski Resort is a little over an hour away if you want to go farther. The inn has an old Showa-era feel, which I found very comfortable as someone from that generation. The building is old, but the first-floor bathroom, toilet, and bath have been renovated. The bath is available 24 hours, and there's also a hairdryer, women's toilet, and sink. My one complaint was the lack of a drying room. We left our skis in the car and brought our boots inside; there was plenty of room to hang clothes. The room has a built-in boiler that switches off automatically after midnight, plus a kerosene fan heater, so it stays warm. If you're lucky, the resident cat might come say hello.

The food is delicious, and private stays are an option too. I'll stay again. There are surprisingly generous portions, so I think you'll be satisfied. I was here for work, and the inside has a very retro feel. The toilet, sink, washer, and dryer are on the first floor, and the toilet and sink have been renovated. There's one bathroom with a tub and shower area for two or three people, but it locks, so you can have it to yourself. If someone else is using it, you'll have to wait your turn. There's a small fridge in the hallway, which could be full if there are lots of guests. There's also a cat relaxing on a chair in the lobby. Leave your room door open and it may come in.
