Diamond Gero Onsen Society

I wound up spending a lot of time tucked away at the hotel. When you have dinner there, the lounge is available from 3pm, with a broad range of drinks and food that makes it worth a visit. It’s surprising there aren’t more guests given the good location. My one gripe was the slow elevators.

April 2025 I was happy with the hotel since sightseeing was my main plan, and I wanted to try different good food. I didn’t include meals, so I had Hida beef steak for lunch and chicken chan at an izakaya nearby for dinner. The staff were very kind, and even put my ice packs in the freezer for me. The room was clean, and I was very satisfied. It sits on a hill with a great view, and it’s fairly close to Gero Onsen Station. The hot springs were so relaxing that I went in several times, especially since there weren’t many people.

It’s quiet here, though you can hear people talking in the hall from your room. The toilets were clean. There’s all-you-can-drink, so watch how much you have. Staff contact is pretty much limited to check-in and check-out. Getting to Gero Station takes more than 10 minutes on foot, and while the hot spring town isn’t far, the hill is steep. The lot in front fills up fast, so arriving early is sensible. There’s just one elevator, and the stairs are easier to use.

Our child’s birthday was a real highlight. We’d told the hotel beforehand and asked for a cake, and everyone joined in celebrating. They remembered our child’s name and used it, which made us very happy. The staff were attentive and polite, and even the cleaners greeted us as they passed. The kids’ meals and yukata for children (6 years old) helped make this a relaxing place for families. The public bath wasn’t too hot, so children could enjoy it too. The bathroom was spacious and very clean. Some parts of the building show their age, but the cleanliness, staff training, and food made up for that, and we were very satisfied.
