Miyako

I spent two nights in one of the detached villas, with a private in-room onsen and breakfast and dinner included. It was lovely to soak in the bath, and the Japanese meals were fresh, beautifully plated, and gorgeous. The rooms mix traditional style with luxury, and there were personal skincare and hygiene products all around. It was quieter than most hotels in Gero. Every staff member gave exceptionally good service. The pillows and bed may feel a bit hard to some people, though, and Wi-Fi in my detached room was almost unusable. The hotel seemed less prepared for guests who don't speak Japanese, so be ready to use Google Translation. I enjoyed every minute here.

We had a fantastic night at Hotel Miyako in January. Our room had a private onsen, which we found so relaxing, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The JR station is a little way off, but Miyako arranged a free shuttle pickup. The staff also carried our luggage from the station to our room. Everyone was helpful and kind. We'd highly recommend staying here, especially in a room with a private onsen.

Every room type feels individual, with no duplicates, which gives the place a distinctive feel. The service, renovation, atmosphere, food, and onsen were all outstanding. No question, it deserves five stars.
