Shinmeisanso

We came as a couple and barely noticed the TV. From our room, the mountains looked lovely, and we could hear the river and birds outside. Dinner and breakfast were both generous, and we enjoyed all the dishes made with local vegetables. The coffee was tasty too, at 200 yen a cup.

I went for a day visit with a Gero Onsen hot spring pass on a Sunday evening. There was nobody else there, so I could take my time and really relax. The quiet setting, with no houses nearby, gives it the feel of a tucked-away inn. There’s one indoor bath and one open-air bath, where I could enjoy the view in peace and come away feeling refreshed, body and mind. The food gets high praise too, so I’d like to stay overnight next time and try it.

The rooms were really clean and well kept, and I thought the Kizoku-no-Yu radon bath was excellent. But the food was the real standout. They use very fresh ingredients from Gifu, and you can sense how much the chef wants guests to have a good experience. I assume the menu changes with the seasons, which makes me want to return at another time of year. No surprise they have so many repeat guests. I also noticed what looked like sturgeon swimming with the carp in the pond by the entrance. I’m curious whether they serve their own caviar, or might do so in the future.

I’ve been to Shinmei Sanso three times 👍️ The deep bath makes it easy to relax and enjoy a soak 😃. I was really impressed when they served food with a 🎎 design, and happy to hear the Hina dolls from the Takehara area would be on display through April 3rd ☺️ There was a little dish under the dolls 😃, and after that I enjoyed the different dishes too, all delicious. I asked for a guest register and was touched when I received one with a modern daffodil design 😭
