Miharaya Ryokan

January brought lots of snow and bitter cold outside, but our room was warm and cozy. This ryokan is tucked away in a quiet part of Gujo Hacbiman. Breakfast was incredible, and we all loved the generous meal. They made a special Western breakfast for my parents-in-law, and they loved it too. We'd definitely recommend staying here.

We stayed here with our two kids and had a lovely time. Our room was huge, with a glorious river view, and the meals were incredible, with so much food at both dinner and breakfast. Igawa Lane and its beautiful koi are very close by. Gujo Hachiman was a lovely place to stop overnight, and I'd highly recommend experiencing a traditional ryokan while traveling.

On our bike tour in October 2025, the hosts kindly let us keep our bikes indoors by the entrance after we told them ahead of time. That saved time and the stress of fitting them into Rinko bags or leaving them outside. The place is right by the river and just a short walk from restaurants.

The location is the best part, right in the city center with a nice view of the river from the balcony. The Japanese room had tatami and a futon, and the size was okay, but the pillows were so hard that I struggled to sleep. The shared bath and toilet were clean. Still, if you're not used to a communal shower room, having someone shower right next to you may feel awkward. The toilet light works on a sensor, which can be inconvenient if you're sensitive to light. I got up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep.
