Business Hotel Kitaguni

The room turned out much nicer than I'd expected, especially since I hadn't found much information about it beforehand. It was spacious with a lovely view, and the carpet over the tatami mats felt soft and comfortable. I almost felt bad using it with my family of three. At check-in, the staff were polite and helpful, and the location worked well for us: a large supermarket and a hot spring bathhouse were within walking distance, and Mount Hakodate was a 30-minute drive away. My room had none of the cigarette smell that I noticed in the hallways and on the stairs. The fourth-floor toilet, which seemed mostly for guests, had a heated seat but no washlet. There was a window right beside it where I could see outside, an unusual design that I enjoyed. The hotel was full on the day we stayed, and the parking lot was packed, so finding a spot after going out in the evening was a little difficult. It was very quiet at night, and I slept well. I'll use this hotel again when I'm in Hakodate.

The annex cost just under 5,000 yen, which felt reasonable. But in the middle of summer it was stifling without air conditioning, and I couldn't sleep. The fan did nothing to help. The front desk staff seemed confused at first and weren't especially impressive, though the hotel was decent. There are convenience stores and restaurants along the national highway, and Lakipi and Hasesuto are nearby too.

I had to find somewhere in Hakodate at short notice, and this hotel was very cheap. Since it was a hot day and an air-conditioned room was available, I picked that one. The building is old, but the staff were friendly, and I was glad to get a room at such a low price.

The clean rooms have a lovely old-fashioned feel. I stayed here while taking the Tsugaru Kaikyo Ferry, and found it handy to have a hot spring nearby as well as Hasegawa Store, known for its yakitori bento, for shopping.
