The staff were all very friendly, and our room was clean, had the basic amenities, and looked out over the station. The coin laundry, with three washers and dryers, was convenient. We also had a night out in the Onsen area and needed to check out, then return the next day. The hotel stored our bags and let us check in the following day. With the reasonable price, these things make it an okay option. The station is just across the street, so without snow it’s an easy walk across one traffic light. In snow, even that crossing becomes a hassle, and dragging bags through it is unpleasant. If I could choose again, I’d take the JR Hotel right at the station instead. Check-in is strict, too, no earlier than 3 PM and no flexibility. The main problem for us was the poor sound insulation. You can hear everything, even in a corner room. The side rooms were still noisy enough to affect our sleep, and I personally complained 2-3 times about neighbors making noise at 11 PM. I don’t know how rooms are assigned, but it seemed foreigners might be placed together, and some guests can be extremely loud. I’m a foreigner too, but usually go to bed early while traveling, so the noise really disrupted our rest. Weigh the pros and cons before deciding whether to stay.

The tram stop right next door made getting around easy, and plenty of places were close enough to walk to. The hotel is directly across from the station exit, so there’s no need to navigate with a map. My room felt larger than most in Japan, and I could open the window for fresh air. The bed was comfortable, and it had the usual Japanese amenities. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve had so far, with lots to choose from and no crowds. This is the best hotel I’ve stayed at in Japan. I’d happily come back.

There’s a shop on the ground floor selling Japanese goods to tourists and travelers, and it handles tax-free purchases. The hotel is right beside the JR station and the famous Hakodate Morning Market Square. My standard double room was quite small, with nowhere proper to hang clothes. The bathroom lighting was the brightest I’ve come across, which was nice. The hotel feels dated, and the amenities are basic.

For a long trip, the facilities covered what I needed, including a laundromat and a relaxation room. Breakfast was outstanding for the price, with local food, and there was a free lounge with drinks and snacks. The staff were helpful, and the location is right in front of the station. It wasn’t the most luxurious hotel I’ve stayed in, but it gave me the best value for money I’ve ever had.

Rooms and bathrooms are small, as you’d expect at most city hotels in Japan, but they’re clean and functional. The price was reasonable for a short stay while getting around the main attractions. It’s right by JR Hakodate Station and the morning seafood market, so the location is convenient.
