Hakone Kuoritei

The meals were superb, both dinner and breakfast. There's an unlimited drink bar available all day with beer, sake, shochu, red wine, and all kinds of soft drinks. Best ryokan I've stayed at. I'd definitely come back when I'm in Hakone.

The whole property had a moldy, musty smell. Worse, our room was covered in black mold, which looked like someone had tried painting over it before. We felt sick after just one night and had to leave early for another hotel. Avoid it.

We stayed three days and two nights in the "Ichi Ni" room with a semi open air bath. It was cosy, with lovely beds, and having the onsen connected to the bathroom meant we could soak whenever we wanted. Breakfast and dinner were filling and gave us the full Japanese meal experience. Dinner was especially good, shabu-shabu or sukiyaki style, with a nice cut of beef that went well with the soup or sauce. The staff were polite and quick to help when we asked for extra pillows or a change to the dinner variety. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good-value onsen stay in Hakone.

We drove ourselves, and I’d especially recommend this hotel if you’re arriving by car rather than public transportation. The staff were always nice and polite, and the room was spacious, looked like the photos, and was even bigger than I expected. My family enjoyed the shabushabu dinner and the many tasty dishes at breakfast. There were lots of drinks to choose from, including wine and draft beer. A very nice hot spring hotel with great service and food.
