Lalaca

The meals were generous, with lots of different dishes, and the staff were very accommodating about our no or low seafood requirement. Both dinner and breakfast had an extensive selection. Lalaca is a cute, well-maintained ryokan near Gora station and the cable car, though getting around means walking up and down fairly steep hills. The walk to the inn itself is especially steep, so it could be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. They offered to drive us to the station at checkout, and I suspect you could arrange that for arrival too. There are two public onsens and one private one, which you need to book on the day. They’re on the small side, but the outdoor areas are nice for a warm soak in cool air. I’d recommend Lalaca for a Hakone stay.

As a vegetarian, I can be hard to cater for, but the Lalaca team were wonderful and made me amazing vegetarian meals. Their hospitality was exceptional, and I loved the multiple onsens. I’d definitely stay here again.

The staff were really nice, and dinner was great. The onsen was a lovely extra. The location gives you a good workout. Just check whether the room you’re booking has a shower.

It feels peaceful and relaxing as soon as you walk in. The staff are friendly and very accommodating, and the place is easy to find. A lovely spot to get into the ryokan atmosphere.
