Hakone Miyagino House

I’d give this minus 100 stars. This property is a scam and shouldn’t be listed on Agoda or any hotel site. It’s uninhabitable: the host wasn’t onsite and couldn’t be reached, no room had been prepared for our stay, the toilet was broken and stinky, and the bathroom was unusable. We asked for a refund because we didn’t get the room or service we paid for, but the host never responded.

The Wi-Fi wasn’t working, but the other things were enough for a guest house. This is a guest house, not a hotel.

We stayed one night in November 2023 in a twin room with a bath. The grounds were cute, the place was clean, and the bed was comfortable, so it worked for what we needed. There’s a kettle, microwave, and fridge. It’s a five-minute walk to the bus stop for Gora Station, and within a 10-minute walk there’s a convenience store and a couple of restaurants open after 5pm. Getting into the room was a bit of a struggle because nobody was around just after 5pm for self check-in. The host had messaged which room to use, but the message was translated into English while the room labels were in Japanese, so it took us a few minutes to work it out. The internet never worked, despite trying all the channels and passwords provided. The sink only trickled, and there was just one hand towel, one face towel, and one bath towel for two people.

The price was lower than other nearby places, which was the only plus. The rooms were spacious and decent, but the building felt very old and lacked modern amenities. There were cockroaches, and the AC in one room stopped working. The shared bath was inconvenient, and the location is quite far from Gora station, with few shops and hotels nearby.
