Waking up to the forest was the loveliest part. I only stayed one night in October and had to catch a bus to climb the mountain, so I couldn’t stay for breakfast, though other guests said it was tasty. The room was big and cozy, the heater worked well, and the shower and bath were nice. The grandpa who runs the accommodation took such good care of me. It was late, cold, and raining, and he came to get me by car from a bus stop. A hospitable, comfortable place.

The host was kind and even drove us to the museum the next day. The guest house is cozy and about a six-minute drive from the Open Air Museum, which made it a great base for visiting. Contact the host ahead of time through the booking platform, since there’s no direct contact info. We hadn’t arranged a pickup, so we called a taxi. The walls are a bit thin, but the other guests were quiet and respectful. Free breakfast in exchange for a review was a nice bonus.

It feels like staying in someone’s home, and the owners are fabulous. They picked me up from the bus stop and took me back down the next day when I went exploring. The rooms are comfy, and there’s an onsen bath if you can be bothered to fill it up. The owners’ friendliness is what makes this place five stars for me.

The forest walk to Hakone Villa was a lovely part of the trip, especially if you’re traveling light. It’s quiet and surrounded by nature, with calming views from the windows and a cozy, traditional Japanese feel inside. The villa is well equipped too. If you’d rather not walk, the host is happy to pick you up at the bus stop and take you back to the station the next morning. I had a wonderful stay.
