If you like older-style rooms, you'll probably enjoy this place. The location is amazing, near some luxury hotels but without their huge price tag, depending on the season. The reception and lift could use a bit of paint, but don't let that put you off booking. Service was just okay. Apart from check-in, we didn't have much contact with staff, though the woman we met was nice. Make use of the public bath, it's an onsen.

The location is peaceful, with mountain views and a train station nearby. The rooms are traditional Japanese style. The staff were helpful and supportive, and made my stay comfortable. I'd like to thank them.

The mountain view is great, and Gora station is only a few minutes away. Stock up on what you need near the station first, because the route up to the hotel is very steep.

The tatami room was roomy enough for a family of five or six, with a kitchen and separate toilet and bathroom. You can borrow cooking utensils from reception. The onsen is small, just enough for four to six people, but we were lucky to have it to ourselves for two nights in the low season in early March. Naka Gora Station is a three-minute walk away, but the road is steep and dark at night, so it won't be easy for elderly guests or anyone with knee problems. The Tozan cable car stops running at 6pm. Male staff spoke a little English and were very helpful. A shuttle to Gora Station runs at 9.30am and 10.45am, which was useful on checkout day. Reserve online or at reception in advance. The desk is unmanned from 11.30am until 2.30pm. Self check-in was quick and convenient. Recommended.
