JR East Hotel Mets Tsudanuma

For a chain hotel by a rail station, the rooms felt bigger and nicer than expected, and they were spotless. The location is excellent and the service was superior. Amenities were average.

The room was clean and thoughtfully laid out, with a view over one of the busier parts of the city. Hotel Mets locations are handy, right by train stations. Just note there’s no coffee or tea in the room, you need to pick it up in the reception area.

The staff were so kind and helpful, and the location is really convenient. I like being able to choose which amenities I need from the lobby. It’s handy that the TV shows whether the laundry machines are in use, too. One thing I wish they had was a freezer. My dad travels with medicine that needs to stay cold, so he needs to keep ice packs with him. A freezer in each room or even a shared one would help a lot. The carpet also makes the room feel a little dark. A lighter color, maybe light gray with blue stripes, could brighten it up.

The rooms are small, but they’re extremely clean and have everything needed. What stood out most was the staff’s attention, which went beyond what I expected, even by Japan’s generally good service standards. The hotel is right inside Tsudanuma JR Station, and breakfast at Denny's is included and quite good. I’d try the miso soup with grilled salmon and salad. Trains from Tsudanuma run every 10-15 minutes, and it takes about 35 minutes to Tokyo Central Station or 45 minutes to Narita. For the price and quality, it’s probably one of the best options you’ll find.
