Hakuba Alpine Hotel

We had a great time and would absolutely stay here again. The onsen is cozy and very hot, and the hotel is right by the bus stop, which is handy for getting to all the mountains. The place is a little outdated, though so are a lot of spots around here. Excellent hotel.

The onsen was just what we needed after skiing, and breakfast kept us going for hours. We stayed in a tatami room; the mattress was a bit thin, but we made it work as part of the experience. Everything was within walking distance, including Happo one bus terminal, just a three-minute stroll away. It was our first stay at Hakuba Alpine Hotel, and we already know we’ll come back. The owner was so accommodating, even arranging a taxi to the station early on our last day because the walk was too icy. His family has run the hotel for over 100 years, and you can feel how much care and pride goes into it.

We arrived late after driving and were so glad to have a warm soak in the Onsen, which stays open through the night. It really helped us unwind. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the whole place felt homey. There was room to move around outside our room too, which worked well with the kids. Breakfast was fantastic.

For the price, this is a really nice hotel. We liked having an onsen and a room to store ski gear, and the bus terminal, rentals, and plenty of restaurants are all about a five-minute walk away. We did find a few stray hairs in the bathroom when we arrived, though, and the walls are thin enough that we could hear our noisy neighbors. Those were the reasons it wasn’t five stars for us.
