You’ll need to take off your shoes at the door and switch to slippers before entering the inn. They were firm about that rule. Breakfast cost an extra 1500 yen and tasted genuinely Japanese. Lots of guests were there by 7am. We were served mochi rice cake for New Year’s Day breakfast, which was a lovely treat.

The owners of Hakuba Glad Inn Ebisuya used to be ski instructors, so they understand what guests need. That’s how they met. It’s a lovely place for a relaxed, traditional Japanese stay :D!!

A laid-back hostel with really nice people, traditional Japanese-style rooms, and a great bath. The front desk takes cash only, though there are ATMs nearby.

Dinner and breakfast were such good value that I wish we’d booked dinner every night. You need to reserve ahead and check availability. There’s plenty of parking too, which is handy if you’re driving. Each room has its own toilet and basin, while showers are in the public bath downstairs. The staff were polite, friendly, and helpful, using a translator to communicate as best they could with guests who don’t speak Japanese.

The management were friendly, and the place was very clean, cozy, and traditional. I liked the equipment storage room, and the shared bathroom was fine by me, especially with the hot spring pool there. We enjoyed our stay in March ’25.
