Hakuba Highland Hotel

The hotel isn't especially easy to get around from unless you use the shuttle buses to places like the ski resorts. Still, most of the shared spaces look out onto spectacular mountains, and the staff are very helpful. The food is pretty good and the onsen is great for this village-like area around Hakuba. I think it's a good choice.

It’s a handy spot near Hakuba Station, with a beautiful outdoor natural hot spring and scenic views. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. A nice option for families or a relaxing getaway.

I’m not usually into hot springs, but my wife loves them, so we booked this place for its open-air bath. She had a great time. I was especially impressed by dinner: the Japanese buffet felt like an art form, from the fresh ingredients and cooking to the variety and presentation. The decor was nice too. We’re glad we came, and I’d recommend it.

The buffet breakfast was really good, with lovely mountain views. We came mainly for the onsens and they lived up to expectations, with nice indoor and outdoor baths overlooking the mountains. The men’s and women’s baths are separate, and they switch sides each day.
