Hosonokan

We were a larger group spread across several rooms for a few days, and this ended up being our favourite place to stay on our Japan trip. The traditional feel, good breakfast and location all worked well for us, with Happo One bus terminal, rental shops, restaurants and bars nearby. Staff helped with transfers and were happy to drive us to lessons or Hakuba Station. They were very flexible and helpful, even letting us hang around for a few hours after checkout while we waited for transport. There’s a dry room for gear, and the onsens welcome guests with tattoos.

The rooms were spotless and looked after, and the team was so kind and welcoming. They kept us posted about local events and even offered rides around town when we couldn’t get an Uber. You can tell they care about guests and take pride in sharing Japanese culture. The hotel embraces traditional Japanese style, and staying there felt special and authentic. Its spot in the heart of Happo Village made it an easy walk to the mountain, restaurants and bars, and it’s very close to the Happo Bus Terminal. We had a wonderful stay and will be back. The couple who own and run this hotel made us feel at home and were always ready to help. Their service and hospitality were unreal. It’s right by the happo bus terminal, and another shuttle picks you up at the front door and takes you to happo gondola. A great place for an Australian couple to stay.

I’d happily recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a comfortable stay in Hakuba. It’s close to the Happo bus terminal, on the main road and near plenty of restaurants. Since it’s an older hotel, I expected the interior to feel dated, but it was actually modern, spacious, very clean and well maintained. I really liked the ryokan-style atmosphere. Service was five-star too, especially from the older male receptionist with glasses, who was friendly and helpful to our whole family. Arigatou!🗻🙏🏻
