Il Bosco

The accommodation was a relaxing place to spend time, and the local restaurants and bar are an easy walk away. Our host welcomed us warmly and made sure breakfast included gluten-free bread and cereal, as well as plant-based milk.

We spent a week at Il Bosco in mid-April, two months into our trip around Japan, and it was the best place we stayed. I expected a lot and it was even better. We were surprised to find we could still ski, and had three beautiful days on the slopes. After time in the mountains, coming back to the cozy house and warm fireplace was lovely. Koki's home-cooked dinner was amazing when booked, and the hot "big bath" helped us unwind before bed. The beds were so cozy and made for long nights of sleep. Breakfast was the best too, with homemade bread, jams, fruit, cereal, milk, and juice. I'm French, and that baguette was perfect. Even though the busy winter season was over and most restaurants were closed, the few that stayed open were great, and we felt lucky and welcome in Kamishiro / Hakuba. We'll definitely return, maybe earlier in the snow season or in summer for challenging hikes. Much respect to Koki and his wife for the beautiful eco-house they've built. It's a big place, and I can only imagine how much work and passion went into making it such a dreamy lodge.

The owners are locals who are so friendly and helpful, and clearly love the area. Their dinner is delicious, though there's a microwave, fridge, cutlery, and kettle if you'd rather warm up your own food. There's plenty of room to work, and the bath is wonderful after a long day of skiing. With the fireplaces going and lots of room to relax, it feels like a home away from home. I can't wait to come back!

Koki was really kind and nice. The room was great, and the place felt very cozy.
