The location was handy, just a two-minute walk from the main Echoland street, with lots of good food, ski and snowboard rentals, and a convenience store. Free shuttles to various resorts stop within a two-minute walk too. The hotel has discount cards for equipment rental and lift passes at selected shops and resorts. Our Standard Twin had room to fully open two medium suitcases, plus an in-room basin for brushing teeth. The heated floors were adjustable. Shared toilets were kept clean, and the two private onsens, in different sizes, were the feature we enjoyed most. There’s also a drying room for shoes, gloves, and ski or snowboard gear. The beds were a bit hard, though after a full day skiing or snowboarding I could probably sleep anywhere. Towels and toothbrushes weren’t included, and you have to pay extra if you need them.

We stayed in Hakuba the whole time at Landhaus Dancru Netz, and we’d definitely return. The hosts helped us make dinner reservations: we chose the restaurant, and they contacted it to check availability. When we left, they drove us to Happo Bus Terminal for a small fee. We don’t speak Japanese, so Google Translate came in handy. The rooms had radiant floor heating and just enough space for two adults. Downstairs there are two onsens for showering and soaking, along with a drying room for gear. Breakfast is served in a larger common room with a wood-burning fireplace. The hosts were supportive and helpful throughout. Echoland has plenty of gear rentals and restaurants, but it gets VERY busy, so booking dinner is strongly recommended. Without a reservation, your best bet is to wait outside before opening, around 5-10 minutes early, and ask for a table as soon as they open. The free ski hill buses stop along the main road near Dancru. The Hakuba Valley Shuttle to all the ski hills is farther away, about a 10-minute walk with gear, downhill. The bus service wasn’t as frequent as we’d have liked, but extra buses came when everyone couldn’t fit. Before we arrived from Canada, we had some trouble contacting the hosts. We’re cheap and didn’t want to pay for a long-distance call, and I never got a reply to the message I sent through the website.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the location was fantastic. Breakfast was delicious and ready on time every day. I’d definitely stay again. There’s a great common room with guitars, drums, and a piano. The drying room and storage for boards and skis were really useful too.

Everything was clean and well kept, and I was fine with the shared showers. The heated floors in the rooms were a godsend, and the drying room and onsen were nice extras. Breakfast was fresh and only 600 yen. The owners were so kind, happy, and did their best to make us comfortable. They picked us up from the bus station and dropped us back, and offered discounts for the slopes. The location was perfect, with bus stops, shops, and restaurants all around, about a two-minute walk away. We’d come back on a future visit.
