Ougiya Ryokan

This is a lovely family-owned hotel, and the service was outstanding. We had Japanese-style rooms only, but they were very comfortable. The regular onsen was excellent, and we especially enjoyed the private one. Restaurants and shops are nearby, and the ski shuttles to the lifts are convenient. We hope to return.

Our tatami room was spacious and traditional, and the common areas were relaxing. Breakfast had a good range of choices to start the day, and the on-site onsen was decent. The hotel is central, just a short walk from Happo bus station, with easy connections to the local slopes. I’d happily stay again.

For a January 2025 ski week in Hakuba, this hotel had a lot going for it: a great location, helpful service, easy access to ski storage, tasty complimentary buffet breakfast, and a spacious room with a great view. The basement onsen was a nice extra. I chose a Japanese-style room because the photos looked nicer, then discovered the bed was a floor mat. The pictures did show that, so it was my mistake, but I hadn’t expected that setup at a $250-a-night hotel. Next time I’d pick a Western-style room with a bed.

Great location and a lovely, clean, tidy hotel with what you need. It does feel tired, though, and the price reflects that.
