Panketo Lodge

The grilling spot outside was a real highlight for us, with charcoal and cooking utensils provided. There’s also a very sweet golden retriever at the lodge, which made our kids happy since we haven’t been able to have dogs since moving to Japan. And the free breakfast was so good, with familiar Western and Japanese continental choices plus a different, delicious and filling hot item each morning. The shuttle took us to places around town, including the supermarket, Happo-One gondola, and the bus and train station. The lodge is tucked away enough to feel like we were in the woods, but close enough to town for supplies, restaurants and resorts. Rooms are spacious and well furnished, and the staff were amazingly helpful. It was perfect for us, and we couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more.

The staff looked after us really well during our two-week stay, and we’re grateful for all their help when we needed it. There was an unexpected disruption, but they handled it quickly and professionally. Great location and service, with only a short walk to the happo one chairlift. The kids won’t forget their time on the snow anytime soon.

Hiro and Serena at Panketo Lodge were incredibly helpful, nothing seemed like too much trouble and they went out of their way for us. My daughter and I had a warm, comfortable, clean twin room for four days. The hot breakfast and buffet each morning were great, and being able to do laundry there after 10 days traveling around Japan was much appreciated. We’d definitely stay again.

I’ve been here twice, in 2021 and 2023, and had an absolutely excellent stay both times. It’s a relaxing lodge with lots of character, a fireplace, a television and really comfortable rooms. The staff are always helpful. Hakuba is somewhere I’d only stay here, highly recommend it.
